National Park Transfer Station
National Park Village does not have a waste or recycling street collection service. All waste and recycling needs to be taken to the Transfer Station located on Pehi Road – opposite the railway station. Recycling is free at the transfer station, but there are charges to dispose of solid waste, unless it is in official pink Ruapehu District Council (RDC) refuse bags, which are available at the Four Square, and supermarkets in the area. Local & regional government
National Park Village is administered by the Ruapehu District Council (RDC) and on a regional levels falls under Horizons Regional Council. It is part of the Rangitīkei general electorate and the Te Tai Hauāuru Māori electorate.

Community Board
The village is represented at the RDC through the Ōwhango-National Park Community Board (ONPCB) which comprises five elected community representatives and one appointed councillor from the council.
National Park Village Business Association (NPVBA)
The National Park Village Business Association (NPVBA) represents the local business community. It works to publicise and promote National Park Village and the surrounding villages or Raurimu, Erua and Whakapapa, with the aim of attracting industry, visitors, tourists, business interests and new residents.
The association also aims to ensure that visitors and tourists are made welcome and given information and assistance, and to assist and promote initiatives to bring tourist facilities, attractions, entertainment and new industries to the area.
The association manages two important website to help promote the area and its attractions: nationalpark.co.nz and tongarirocrossing.org.nz.
